The tongue is a very unique part of the body, because it plays a very important role for all people. Through this organ we communicate, bring food into the mouth, maintain the health of our mouths, but the tongue tells us a lot about the condition of our body. If an experienced doctor looks at your tongue,  he can tell you a lot about yourself  and your surroundings, about your eating habits and generally about your lifestyle.

If your tongue is covered with a thick layer of white coating, it’s not a very good sign. Some systems in the body may no longer be carrying out their physiological functions, and it may also indicate the presence of a viral infection.

A bright red color of the tongue points to the presence of infection in the body. Red spots on the tongue may signal a raised temperature or even blood inflammation. In children it is a clear sign of reduced immunity. A dark red color is a sign that you may have kidney problems or it may indicate poisoning.

The tip of the tongue is also known because it reflects the condition of our heart. Given this fact, a red tip of the tongue without signs of any disease means that we have some confusion in the emotional area. It is therefore more of a psychological problem.

Such coloring indicates excessive consumption of spicy foods or even overly fatty foods, as well as alcohol. According to Oriental medicine, such coloring indicates long-term anger or envy.

Purple tongue

Most often such tongue discoloration is caused by a deficiency of vitamin B. Purple tongues are often found in women who have a complicated menstrual cycle, and it also appears in people suffering from chronic pain.

Cyanosis of the tongue

… or otherwise called a cyanotic tongue is a sign that you should seek medical attention immediately. The tissues in the tongue do not have a sufficient amount of oxygen. It can also be a sign of heart disease, affected blood vessels, heart dysfunction or respiratory problems.

Yellow tongue

If the tongue is yellow in color for a long time, it is a sign of disease of the liver or gallbladder. If the yellowish color is found especially on the front part of the tongue, it may be a sign of hepatitis.

Green tongue

A dark green or greenish tongue may indicate food or alcohol poisoning.
