The tongue is a very unique part of the body, because it plays a very important role for all people. Through this organ we communicate, bring food into the mouth, maintain the health of our mouths, but the tongue tells us a lot about the condition of our body. If an experienced doctor looks at your tongue, he can tell you a lot about yourself and your surroundings, about your eating habits and generally about your lifestyle.
If you have a mirror at hand, you will see for yourself what your tongue is telling you!
healthy tongue
The color of a healthy tongue, and therefore a healthy person, is always uniformly pink. It is naturally moist, has no coating, spots, grooves or sore areas. That means that your stomach and digestive system are also healthy and functioning as they should.
Colored coating
White tongue
Such a tongue, and therefore such a color, indicates problems with the liver or the gastrointestinal tract. Making an exact diagnosis based only on the color of the tongue is impossible, because it could be due to decreased acidity in the body or even a stomach ulcer. It’s better to consult a doctor.
Thick layer of white coating
If your tongue is covered with a thick layer of white coating, it’s not a very good sign. Some systems in the body may no longer be carrying out their physiological functions, and it may also indicate the presence of a viral infection.
yellow tongue
This type of coating indicates problems with the liver, or possibly the gallbladder. It can also be a sign of poor digestion of food in the body.
Unevenly colored tongue with pronounced grooves
This is a sign of disease of the digestive tract. If the grooves are very deep and look almost like cracks, it is evidence that blood sugar levels are very high. A doctor will determine the exact diagnosis.
Tongue color
pale tongue
A tongue that is pale or light in color is most likely a symptom of problems with the digestive system. Such a color is often accompanied by other symptoms, such as loose stools, cold hands and feet, fatigue, or bloating.
A very light and dry tongue may also signal a lack of blood in the body, which is usually accompanied by feelings of anxiety, dizziness, memory problems, insomnia, anemia, and chapped lips.
Red tongue
A bright red color of the tongue points to the presence of infection in the body. Red spots on the tongue may signal a raised temperature or even blood inflammation. In children it is a clear sign of reduced immunity. A dark red color is a sign that you may have kidney problems or it may indicate poisoning.
