Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the dough: In a bowl, mix all ingredients for the dough: flour, baking powder, vanilla sugar, powdered sugar, butter and yolks. Beat the dough and spread it evenly on a baking sheet, which you can line with baking paper or grease and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  • Preparing the quark filling: Place 2 whole eggs and 2 yolks into a bowl, add 3/4 cup sugar and vanilla sugar. Mix until everything is combined. Then gradually add the smooth quark and mix all ingredients well. Next add the oil, milk, cream pudding and mix well again until a smooth quark mixture forms.
  • Combining dough and filling: Pour the quark filling onto the prepared dough on the baking sheet and level the surface.
  • Baking: Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 40–45 minutes. After this time the edge of the cake should be golden. Shortly before the end of baking (about 5–10 minutes before done) prepare the meringue from the egg whites. Whisk all egg whites to stiff peaks and gradually add 0.5 cup sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  • Finishing baking: Remove the finished cake from the oven and pour the prepared meringue over the hot filling. Smooth it and you can create patterns with a fork. Return the cake to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes at 170 °C, until the meringue sets but does not brown.
  • Cooling: Let the cake cool quickly in a cool place. As it cools, golden sugar drops will appear on the meringue. It's best to let the cake chill in the refrigerator overnight. After cooling you can cut and serve it.
