This French-style meat casserole recipe is an ideal choice for Sunday lunch. Although it may look like a complicated dish at first glance, the opposite is true — the preparation is very easy and the result will absolutely amaze you. You can choose between beef or pork, add potatoes, onion, mayonnaise, and cheese, and you have a great dish for the whole family.

  • Preheat the oven to 190 °C.
  • Peel the onion and cut it into half-rings. Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices.
  • Cut the meat into pieces, season with salt and pepper, and mix everything thoroughly.
  • Add the mayonnaise to the grated cheese and mix well to form a smooth mixture.
  • Grease the baking dish with sunflower oil.
  • Place half of the potatoes on the bottom of the dish, sprinkle them with seasoning, lay half the meat on them, then a layer of onion.
  • Finally add half of the mayonnaise and cheese mixture.
  • Repeat this process once more in the same order.
  • Put the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, until everything is nicely cooked through.
