Easter stuffing – or also hlavička – is a symbol of abundance and purification. It uses leftovers of stale bread, eggs and spring herbs such as nettles, chives or parsley. Adding smoked meat produces a tasty dish that is most often served on Holy Saturday or Easter Monday.

Preparation procedure

  • Cut the bread into cubes and pour over with milk. Let it soak.
  • Meanwhile, cut the onion and meat into cubes, sauté until golden.
  • Stir in the eggs, herbs, salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. Add to the bread.
  • Mix everything and put into a butter-greased baking dish.
  • Bake at 180 °C for about 40–45 minutes until golden.
