The role of the thyroid gland for our overall health is indisputable. This relatively small butterfly-shaped organ is located on the neck in the throat area near the Adam’s apple.

The task of the thyroid gland is to stimulate metabolism through the hormones it produces, maintain calcium levels and the amount of other bodily processes.

Unfortunately, many of us ignore the condition of our thyroid until some health problem appears. Imbalance in thyroid hormone levels causes numerous adverse effects on the body.

Essential oils and their effect on the thyroid gland

Essential oils are extremely beneficial substances for regulating the thyroid. In the body they act by the same mechanisms as thyroid hormones.

The oils listed support several bodily functions, organs and other endocrine glands.

How to use essential oils to support the thyroid

Here are several methods to use the mentioned oils to support and regulate thyroid hormone production and improve its functioning.

1. Every day immediately after waking apply 1 drop of basil essential oil diluted in a little carrier oil (sunflower, olive, etc.) to the back where the kidneys are located.

2. Every morning apply one drop of essential oil from the other named essential oils diluted in a little carrier oil to the thyroid area.

3. Prepare a blend to apply to the soles of your feet. Make it by mixing 20 drops each of basil, myrrh, frankincense and lemongrass essential oils and 1 to 2 tablespoons of carrier oil. Store the blend in a sealable glass container.

A few final tips
You can also use essential oils as part of aromatherapy.

Put 5 to 10 drops into an essential oil diffuser. You can also apply the essential/carrier oil blend to clothing, to your palm, or smell directly from the bottle.

When applying to the skin always dilute the oil with another carrier oil because essential oils are extremely concentrated. Then apply them around the relevant gland or on the corresponding reflex points located on the feet.
