Pangasius, or basa – a type of river fish that contains a number of chemicals, bacteria, hormones and heavy metals.

This fish accumulates high levels of arsenic, as well as polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT and its metabolites, chlordane congeners (CHLS), metallic contaminants, isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane, hexachlorobenzene and other toxic and hazardous substances.

Why it is not good to eat pangasius fish

In fact, this fish is mostly farmed in the Mekong River in Vietnam, where the level of water pollution is one of the highest in the world. Compounds from untreated wastewater of chemical factories, sewage from treatment plants and fertilizers from fields are discharged into the Mekong. And reckless breeders also feed pangasius genetically modified feed and other chemicals.

Pangasius is very cheap, so the fish are sold mainly to the poor and shipped to “third world” countries where the fish are actively bought.

Freezing and hormones are a problem

The same Mekong water is used when freezing pangasius. To make the fish grow 4x faster, hormones are brought from China that are introduced into the bodies of the females. Although the authorities that control product quality in Europe require data on these hormones, the manufacturers refuse to provide them.

Consequences of regular consumption of pangasius fish

Studies show that consuming pangasius leads to liver damage, blood disorders, and damage to internal organs.

Be careful and try to stop consuming this fish. It is very dangerous for people and especially for small children. Watch what you eat!
