If you're looking for the best pea soup without unnecessary complications, this method is definitely worth trying.

Pea soup is among the most traditional Czech soups, which were already cooked in our grandmothers’ time. It is hearty, fragrant and ideal mainly in the colder part of the year. This version with yellow split peas, smoked bacon and sausage is truly hearty and full of flavor – exactly the kind many remember from home.

Preparation procedure

  • Put the smoked bacon into a large pot, pour in about 3 liters of cold water and bring to a boil.
  • Add the rinsed yellow split peas to the pot, add the allspice berries, the carrot sliced into rounds, the celery and parsley cut into cubes. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Then add the potatoes cut into cubes and continue cooking until the peas begin to soften.
  • Meanwhile, briefly sauté the diced sausage in a pan. Near the end add the crushed garlic, stir briefly and transfer everything into the soup.
  • Season the soup with salt, freshly ground pepper and dried marjoram. To taste you can also add a few drops of Maggi.
  • Cook for a few more minutes to let the flavors meld well. Finally, add the chopped parsley.
