Preparation procedure

  • Poppy-seed dough: In a large bowl, cream the soft Hera (or butter) with the sugar, vanilla sugar and rum. Gradually beat in the eggs. Add the flour mixed with the baking powder, ground poppy seeds and milk. A smooth batter will form.
  • Quark-pudding layer: In another bowl, mix the quark with the powdered sugar, vanilla sugar, pudding powder, eggs and lemon juice until smooth and homogeneous.
  • Assembling the cake: Grease and flour a baking pan (25 × 35 cm). Spread the poppy-seed batter evenly on the bottom. Carefully pour the quark-pudding cream on top and smooth it with a spatula.
  • Baking: Bake in an oven preheated to 170 °C (fan 160 °C) for 45 minutes, until the surface acquires a golden tint and the cream sets.
  • Cooling: Let the cake cool for at least 2 hours. For the best melding of flavors, we recommend serving it the next day.
