Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the dough: In a bowl mix the flour, baking powder and sugar. Add margarine cut into pieces and form a crumbly dough. Gradually work in the yolks and divide the dough into two equal parts. Wrap one half in foil and put it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, the other in the freezer.
  • Preparing the walnut filling: Mix the chopped walnuts, sugar and add a few drops of rum flavoring.
  • Preparing the quark filling: Whip the egg whites into stiff peaks. Add half of the sugar, beat, then add the second half of the sugar together with the vanilla sugar. Finally fold in the quark and flour until a smooth mixture forms.
  • Assembling the cake: Grease a baking tray and dust with flour. Roll out the dough from the fridge and transfer it to the bottom of the tray. Layer the walnut filling, then the quark mixture and smooth. Finally grate the hardened dough from the freezer over the surface.
  • Baking: Bake the cake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for approximately 35 minutes. After baking let it cool and before serving sprinkle with powdered sugar.
