  • Preparation of the honey mixture: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the margarine with the honey. Add the baking soda and, stirring constantly, cook until the mixture takes on a golden to caramel color. Then remove from the heat and let it cool completely.
  • Preparation of the batter: Beat the eggs with the sugar until a thick foam forms – you should get a fluffy, light batter. Add the cooled honey mixture and finally gradually fold in the sifted flour to form a smooth batter.
  • Baking the layers: Spread half of the batter evenly on a baking sheet (approx. 25 × 36 cm) lined with baking paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 170 °C for about 18 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned. Bake the second half of the batter in the same way.
