Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the dough: Add the dry yeast to the lukewarm sparkling water and let stand for 5 minutes. Then stir in the sugar, oil and gradually the flour. Work into a smooth dough, which you divide into three equal parts.
  • Preparation of the fillings: Prepare the poppy seed filling by mixing the ground poppy seeds with the powdered sugar. Make the walnut filling the same way – mix the ground walnuts with the powdered sugar.
  • Assembling the cake: Roll out the first piece of dough and place it in a greased baking tray. Spread it with plum jam and evenly sprinkle the poppy seed mixture. Place the second sheet of dough, spread it with apricot jam and sprinkle with the walnut mixture. Finally add the third sheet of dough, press gently and let the cake rise for 30 minutes.
  • Baking: Before baking, prick the cake in several places with a skewer down to the bottom. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 °C for about 30 minutes, until the surface turns golden.
  • Decorating: Carefully turn the baked cake over so that the poppy seed layer is on top. While still hot, brush the cake with apricot jam and sprinkle with ground walnuts. Let cool completely.
