The poppy-seed cake is wonderfully moist thanks to the sour cream, the apples give it freshness and the chocolate glaze turns it into a dessert that pleases young and old. The whole preparation is simple: just mix the ingredients, pour onto a baking tray and after baking pour over with chocolate.

Preparation procedure

  • Peel the apples, remove the cores and cut into smaller pieces. Sprinkle them with ground cinnamon and set aside.
  • In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the granulated sugar and vanilla sugar until light and frothy. Add the oil and sour cream and mix briefly.
  • Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour combined with the baking powder, a pinch of salt and the ground poppy seeds.
  • Finally add the prepared apples and mix everything into a smooth, semi-fluid batter.
  • Spread the batter onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 170 °C for about 25–30 minutes, until the cake is baked and the surface is lightly golden.
  • Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, stir in the oil and pour the finished glaze over the still-warm cake. Let set.

Tips to keep the cake moist
