If slugs, more precisely plzáci, settle in your garden, you’ll have your work cut out to get rid of them. They prefer damp places where they find a safe shelter and in the garden they practically have no natural enemies, so they can happily feast on your plants.

But we have 7 proven methods to get rid of these voracious creatures

1. Beer traps

Buy the cheapest beer and pour it into plastic cups. Bury them in the ground so they are almost level with the surface. This way slugs can more easily reach their favorite drink. They can smell beer from as far as 10 meters and cannot resist it.

They crawl into the cups and then can’t get back out.

2. Eggshells

Crushed eggshells on your beds will prevent slugs from reaching the plants because they are sharp and the slugs cannot cross them. Shells also supply calcium to your plants, so you’ll kill two birds with one stone.

3. Sandpaper

Place pieces of sandpaper around the plants that slugs like to feed on. The rough surface of the paper harms them and they won’t reach the plants anymore.

4. Citrus traps

Don’t throw away citrus peels; rather use them in the fight against slugs. The scent of citrus is very attractive to them, so if you place peels in the garden, slugs from all around will flock to them. Then just collect and dispose of them.

5. Salt

Sprinkle salt on the soil around the plants. It dries out the slugs’ skin, causing them to die. However, be careful not to sprinkle it on the leaves of the plants, because salt also harms plants.

6. Coffee grounds

Like salt, coffee grounds harm slugs, but with the difference that coffee is also an excellent fertilizer for all crops.

7. Chickens and ducks can help

If you keep poultry, occasionally let chickens or ducks out into your garden; slugs will be a delicacy for them and you’ll get rid of this unpleasant pest without effort.

However, do not leave them unsupervised, because if they peck at the slugs they may also start on your harvest.

We wish you lots of luck getting rid of slugs!
