My grandmother used nettle whole – from the stem to the leaves and flowers . She made fertilizer from it for the garden, sprays against pests and knew how to use it perfectly for health as well. For example, I still dry nettles for nettle tea, it is fantastic for health. You’ve surely heard about its amazing effects . Besides tea, it is also good to know about the effect of nettle on the skin – it is a fantastic aid for various skin problems and for women one of the most interesting effects will certainly be against varicose veins !

Effects of nettle on the skin:

  • treats acne and pimples ,
  • works against rheumatism ,
  • fantastic for oily skin – rinse with a lukewarm nettle infusion and add it to the bath,
  • removes dandruff, treats hair loss and has a beneficial effect  on both the scalp and the hair shaft,
  • excellent for eczema and atopic eczema ,
  • soothes and heals minor wounds ,
  • for abrasions and bruises,
  • nettle ointment and a nettle bath are excellent as prevention and treatment of varicose veins – they have a relaxing and anti-inflammatory effect,
  • have a beneficial effect for psoriasis, plaque and external ulcers ,
  • works against joint and muscle pain (for example after intense physical exertion).

Ointment against varicose veins and leg swelling

Excellent for people who notice the onset of varicose veins in themselves, and also for those who already have protruding ones and may face further health complications. It is also excellent for those who want to avoid varicose veins (prevention). The ointment acts anti-inflammatory and has astringent and healing effects . I recommend it for people who stand or sit for long periods at work. It is also great for swelling and the feeling of heavy legs. The ointment also fights rheumatic pains .

We need:

5 heaping tablespoons of finely chopped nettles (leaves) – if not fresh, you can also use dried

100 g unsalted pork lard

Method:

Add the nettles to the melted unsalted pork lard and cook in a steam bath until a pasty consistency is formed (similar to a classic cream). Apply to the skin several times a day. Before application it is good to wipe the affected area with cotton wool soaked in lukewarm chamomile tea – this heals wounds, bruises, cracked or otherwise damaged skin.

Second recipe

In a water bath, melt 250 g of coconut oil and add washed and finely chopped three handfuls of fresh nettle leaves. Let the liquid simmer lightly for at least 3 hours. Remove the pot from the heat and leave the nettles in the coconut fat until the next day. Then heat it again in a water bath and strain the ointment through a cloth into a clean jar. For a warming ointment, it is recommended to add hot pepper to the hot fat.
