We often don’t even realize that the best things have been right under our noses all along and what’s more – completely free.
Nutrition for houseplants
This nutrition was recommended to me by my neighbor; I had no reason not to trust her because I have admired her flowers for years — whether indoor or balcony plants, hers are by far the most beautiful. They bloom for a long time and last for years, which, for example, couldn’t be said about my orchids, which often stopped flowering after they finished blooming.
I’m glad to know this cheap trick for giving them, and other houseplants as well, strength, energy and the right nutrition. They reward you with beautiful blooms as well as healthy, sturdy green leaves.
Magic water for orchids and other houseplants
It’s nothing more than ordinary water used for soaking rice. The water that many of us pour down the drain is full of vitamins and nutrients that plants need especially during flowering and growth. Rice water contains a number of substances found in commercial plant fertilizers. It has B vitamins (especially B1 and B2), NPK elements (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), starches, fats, carbohydrates, and also complex nutrients that the plant converts into energy, strength and resistance to pests. You can safely store the water in the refrigerator and use it when needed. Watering orchids and other plants is done once every 15-20 days. However, never water with cold water — it’s necessary that the water is at room temperature!
Preparation is simple — just soak the rice in water, let it steep for a while and then strain it.
The secret of beautiful hair
The secret of beautiful Asian women’s hair lies in simple rice water. Rinse half a cup of uncooked rice thoroughly and put it into a bowl. Pour 2–3 cups of water over it and let it soak for 30 minutes. Then strain the water into another container and use it to rinse your hair.
Fermentation — according to studies, water prepared this way has more antioxidants, so it should better fight damage to hair and skin cells. Proceed the same as with soaking, but before straining, let it sit at room temperature and ferment for at least 2 days. Only then strain and use it.
A miracle for garden plants
Rice water ranks among the best bio-fertilizers for your garden. And you don’t need to do anything special with it — just catch it when rinsing rice and then use it to water the plants in your garden.
The real advantage is that you don’t need much rice water and you don’t need to use it often. On the contrary, its effects are so pronounced that the rule is less is more. It is recommended to water with rice water 1–2 times a week and only during the season. Outside the season, when plants rest, rice water would stimulate them unnecessarily and they wouldn’t rest. Rice water is a miracle for plants mainly in small doses. As a reward, plants will quickly flourish, the processes of flowering and fruit ripening will speed up and the plants will get a real vitamin boost.
In the household
Rice water absorbs odors and gives surfaces a special shine — try wiping a sink with it or use it to wash plastic containers from which you need to remove smells. In Japan and China, rice water is also used to wipe glass surfaces; it not only gives them a streak-free shine, but the starch also helps keep windows in great condition for a long time.

Add a little more water than usual. If the mixture thickens, pour off the rice water and use it for drinking.

Rice water for skin and hair
We need:
- ½ cup of uncooked rice
- water
Procedure:
First rinse the rice with 1 cup of water to remove impurities. Then transfer the rice to a bowl and pour water over it. Stir with your hands so the water circulates (this helps vitamins and minerals release into the water faster) and let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
Then strain the water and collect it in a separate container. You can use it immediately to rinse hair or skin.
