Most people buy socks because they think that making them is complicated and requires knitting. But what if someone knits them for you? That’s not unusual. Look at your sweater. It’s already knitted and made of the same wool as socks. If it no longer fits you and you don’t want to throw it away, use it. Moreover, it’s so simple that not only women, but men too can manage it.

Sleeves as part of the base for socks

Take a sweater and first cut off a sleeve. At that moment you have the main base of the socks. The key shape is knitted and now you only need two things. The first is the length. It’s up to you how long you want your winter knitted socks to be. The length of the sleeves makes it easier to wear the socks below the knee. If you prefer knee-highs, we recommend that their length reach approximately to the middle of the leg.

You only need to sew

Once you determine the length of the socks, you can start sewing. Ideally, use a thicker and softer yarn that doesn’t cut into the skin. Take it and sew the ends of the sweater sleeves together to create socks. We recommend putting your feet into them, pulling on the ends in several places so they get the right shape, then you can take them off and sew them so they are fully stitched. And when it’s done, the winter sock made from an old sweater is ready to warm your feet.

Make slippers too

In the same way you can also make knitted slippers. The procedure here is not complicated either. In fact, it’s the same. Just choose a shorter length and for the bottom part that touches the ground you will need a piece of felt. Otherwise the procedure doesn’t differ. And if you have several sweaters at home, there’s nothing simpler than making original socks for everyone. This way everyone will find something to their liking in unconventional, interesting colors.
