You’re sure to have noticed the small stickers on various types of fruit several times. In addition to the manufacturer’s logo, they contain some important information.
They also contain a PLU code through which manufacturers provide us with important information about the product.
When a four-digit code starting with the number 3 or 4
If we find fruit or vegetables with such a code, it means they were grown using conventional methods — for example, large amounts of fertilizers and pesticides may have been used to grow them.
When a five-digit code starting with the number 8
In this case we know that the fruit was genetically modified during its growth. It is this famous GMO food that causes so much controversy. Research suggests that the most commonly modified fruits are melons, bananas and papaya.
When a five-digit code starting with the number 9
If you managed to buy such fruit or vegetables, it means they are organic and come from organic farming. They were grown by old methods, i.e. by hand, without the use of chemicals.

Most people try to look for fruit without stickers
In reality, however, this is the most dangerous option. Fruit imported from abroad should always be properly labeled. If no sticker is available, it may be an intentional attempt to hide something.
