If you were inspired by it but your food still spoiled quickly, you may also have simply chosen the wrong way to store it. Today we bring you 9 tips thanks to which you will never throw food into the bin again!

How to store food properly?

Storing meat

We put the meat into a bag which we slowly immerse into a pot of water without closing the bag. As we submerge it we let the air slowly escape and then close it and place it into the freezer. This way you also create a homemade, simple pouch for storing food.

Storing bread

If we put bread in the refrigerator, we should know that the starch will begin to crystallize much faster than under normal circumstances and therefore the bread will dry out more quickly. A much better alternative is to put it in the freezer sliced in a plastic bag, and stored this way it will last much longer without starch crystallization.

Storing vegetables

To keep salad greens as nicely green and fresh as possible for as long as possible, we must remove moisture before putting them in the refrigerator. We achieve this simply by wrapping the whole vegetables in a cloth which will absorb the moisture.

Proper storage of eggs

If we store eggs in the refrigerator door, we should reconsider. By frequently opening and closing the fridge door we expose the eggs to temperature fluctuations, and they can therefore spoil faster. It’s best to store them as deep in the fridge as possible in the carton in which you bought them.

Storing herbs

Culinary herbs like sage, basil or mint are best stored if you place them in a container with a little water without washing them. Before cooking simply take the desired amount from this bunch and rinse.

Storing strawberries

Vinegar helps reduce microbes and mold, so dilute vinegar with water in a ratio of 1:10 and then dip strawberries that have been pre-rinsed in water into it. After removing the strawberries from this solution, rinse them again under running water, let them dry and you can store them in the refrigerator.

Storing ginger

If you want to keep ginger fresh for a long time, store it frozen. By freezing it you extend its shelf life and preserve its health-beneficial substances.

Storing mushrooms

Overall it is not good to store mushrooms fresh for a long time, but if you do, choose a paper bag rather than a plastic one. A paper bag will absorb excess moisture from them, which helps keep them fresh longer.

Storing cookies

If we add a piece of sliced apple to a container with cookies, we help prevent them from drying out. The cookies will stay fresh longer, but we must be careful about too much moisture. If we feel the cookies are already too wet, remove the apple from the container and replace it with a piece of bread which will absorb the moisture.
