Culinary arts are not just a science of quantities and proportions, but also an art of handling products. For example, the method of storage determines not only the quality of food, but also whether it will remain fresh for a longer time.
Many people know that bread should be stored in a breadbox, potatoes in the dark and bananas in bunches. But what about chicken eggs? We will tell you why it is not enough to just store them in the fridge.
Washing
Rule number one: never wash eggs after purchase. Do it before use – this will prevent the possibility of infection coming into contact with the food. However, washed chicken eggs last for a shorter time because they are deprived of the protective film, without which they “breathe” through the shell much more intensely.
Door shelf
If eggs are stored in the refrigerator door compartment, that is not correct. The recommended storage temperature for this product should be below 20 degrees. The refrigerator door is the warmest place – opening and closing the door causes the temperature to fluctuate and it can happen that the eggs spoil.
Packaging
As noted above, eggshells are porous in nature and easily absorb odors. Therefore they should not be stored near meat and fish. You will do better if you leave them in the original store packaging – you prevent odor absorption and extend their shelf life.
How long should eggs be consumed?
You will get a variety of answers to that, because the expiration period can easily reach one month. Either way, it will be better if you leave them in the refrigerator for no longer than one week. This period will guarantee you consumption of the eggs without worry and wondering whether it is safe to eat them.
Nothing changes, however, on the fact that eggs should not be stored in the refrigerator door compartment. They can spoil even if you occasionally shake them.
Be careful in all stages of meal preparation, because the result can depend on your vigilance and attention. Share this useful information with your friends!
