It turns out that for a modern person there shouldn’t be a problem with preserving products: we put everything in the refrigerator and don’t have to worry about anything else. But not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. Dr. Yevgeny Komarovskaya told us about how to properly preserve eggs and dairy products, and also showed us the most common mistakes when using the refrigerator.
How to properly store eggs
Focus on what is stored in the refrigerator. Check every single product. Pay special attention to the freshness of your stored eggs!
Milk
Milk should be stored at a temperature up to 5 ° C. Therefore never leave it on the door – not only is the temperature there higher than in other parts of the refrigerator, but each time it’s opened warm air from the room reaches it. If you store milk in the refrigerator for more than a week, you can safely throw it away.
Cheeses
Well-wrapped hard cheeses can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 weeks. They are not that sensitive to temperature, so it’s possible to store them in any suitable place.
Even if there is mold on the cheese, that’s not a problem! Just cut out a piece around it about the size of an apricot and you can confidently eat the rest.
Quark
Quark and ricotta should not be stored for more than a week. In this case it is also not good to put them on the refrigerator door. It’s best to choose a place for them on the middle shelf.
Yogurt
Even if the yogurt is in its original packaging and there is still plenty of time left until the best-before date, you should consume it within a week from when you bought it. Store it preferably with the quark.
Eggs
You should store eggs in the coldest part of the refrigerator, so you should not leave them on the door. It is best to place them directly in the original packaging in the coldest spot – closer to the back wall or on the top shelf, depending on the type of refrigerator. They should not be stored for more than 3 weeks.
If you pay attention to these tips, you will protect your family from eating spoiled food.
And don’t forget to share these little secrets with your friends, they’ll surely be grateful!
