Because the birth of a child is sensational in our time, imagine what had to happen when the identical Dionne sisters appeared in the world in 1934.

People are capable of anything for money

The story of these girls proves that anyone is capable of hurting others when they see a chance to make a quick profit. Now, like old women, the sisters at least received financial compensation.

On May 28, 1934, the daughters Elizir and Olivia Dionne were born, a poor married couple of Canadian farmers from Ontario. The boys Yvonne, Annette, Cecile, Emilie and Marie were born completely healthy.

Doctor Allan Roy Dafoe thought twins would be born, but when he saw what a big birth it was, he decided to use it for his own purposes…

The horrific act of the doctor

Doctor Allan Roy Defoe decided to take advantage of the fact that the family was very poor. He also noticed that the parents did not treat their young daughters very well…

After being exhibited at the World’s Fair in Chicago as a sort of sensation, the girls’ doctor led the government in Ontario to take the children from their parents’ care in 1935. And even… the right to visit them. Their doctor took care of the girls and it was not good for them…

The doctor and his sisters not only performed scientific experiments on their sisters, but also treated them as some kind of marketing product. Yvonne, Marie and the other girls were locked in a room that served as a form of entertainment for viewers – people paid to see the famous five-member group. It is estimated that nearly 6,000 people watched them daily! Their room was like a police interrogation room with a mirror…

The girls became a tourist attraction

The girls were forced to take part in many advertisements, their faces adorned numerous calendars and they themselves became the biggest tourist attraction in Ontario. Their doctor and the government made a lot of money from them…

The case of the nine-year-old sisters was taken up by a lawyer. He fought to have the children returned to their family home, but that was the worst thing that could have happened to them.

The parents shouted at Marie and her sisters and did not refrain from verbal or physical aggression. It turned out that their father sexually abused them. At the age of 19 the girls completely cut off contact with their parents, but what they went through affected their whole lives, unfortunately negatively.

How did they fare in adulthood?

Because of the traumatic experiences and lack of a normal childhood, each of the sisters suffered from various kinds of disorders and anxieties: schizophrenia, alcoholism, depression are just examples. Only 20-year-old Emilia died in a seizure, Marie died a year later.

The other three sisters could not earn a living on their own – broken marriages, depression and disorders will likely accompany them for the rest of their lives. In 1997 Yvette, Annette and Cecile sued the government of Ontario. They wanted compensation for the damage they suffered.

Conclusion

The sisters won in court! They received 4 million dollars, but Yvette did not get it. Only two of the five sisters are alive.

It is hard to believe that people can destroy someone’s life and take away a child’s childhood for the sake of profit, that their own father uses his daughters.

What is terrifying is that the government did not protect the girls.
