Retiree Suzanne Hoylaerst from Belgium is currently known to the whole world. The reason is literally a heroic act that most of the population would never dare to undertake. The 90-year-old grandmother was brought to the local hospital with a diagnosed case of Covid-19 in a severe stage.

But when doctors were about to put her on mechanical ventilation, they were in for a shock.

When it comes to bare survival, an unyielding instinct for self-preservation wins out in people, thanks to which patients do not give up their fight until the last moment. Some people, however, have such pure hearts that they humbly accept the situation and literally give the chance to keep breathing to someone else.

The 90-year-old woman from the Belgian town of Binky surprised doctors by refusing the life-saving device with words that may one day be written into history. The kind-hearted lady was so grateful for her long and rich life that before departing for her eternal rest she decided to give the rarest gift to someone from a younger generation. ,,I don’t want to receive an artificial replacement for breathing. Leave it for younger patients. I’ve already had a nice life,” Suzanne uttered shortly before her passing.

The heroine’s family have no idea where the grandmother could have contracted the insidious coronavirus, because she spent most of her time at home and strictly followed all hygiene regulations. Honor to her memory!
