Dobromysl obecná (oregano) – účinky, čaj, použití
First aid for colds and especially cough.

The name dobromysl obecná may mean nothing to you, but when its other name, “oregano,” is mentioned, almost everyone immediately thinks of the tasty spice made from it and commonly added to great dishes. Besides the pleasant taste, dobromysl also offers many medicinal effects.

Supports immunity

The plant contains two important substances: rosmarinic acid and thymol, which are strong antioxidants. These antioxidants are closely linked with reducing oxidative stress in the body. Free radicals are destructive by-products of cellular metabolism that can cause cancer or other serious diseases. If you add dobromysl to your diet, you will improve your immune system and thus keep your body safe.

Dobromysl is antibacterial

Aside from supporting immunity, the basic thing is that the plant has antibacterial properties. These properties are again supported by the two substances we mentioned above. These important organic compounds can protect the organism against a wide spectrum of bacteria that could negatively affect the body.

What is cinnamon good for and how beneficial is it for your health?

Cinnamon is a rich source of antioxidants

Antioxidants protect our body from oxidative stress caused by free radicals.

  • Cinnamon contains a range of antioxidants, such as polyphenols
  • Studies compared the antioxidant activity in 26 types of spices.
  • Cinnamon clearly emerged as one of the best antioxidants and outperformed oregano and garlic in comparison
  • Cinnamon can also be used as a natural preservative.
  • Cinnamon contains compounds with anti-inflammatory effects

The inflammatory response is a very important part of the body’s defense mechanisms.

It helps our body eliminate infections and subsequently participates in the repair of damaged tissues (3).

However, inflammation can be undesirable if it is chronic or directed against tissues of our own body.

Cinnamon contains substances with anti-inflammatory action, so its appropriate consumption can contribute to reducing inflammation in the body (for example together with consuming other foods with anti-inflammatory effects).

How to take it?

Ground cinnamon – therapeutic doses
add 1/3 of a teaspoon to food 1 – 2 times a day
if you will be taking ground cinnamon, tea doses should be proportionally reduced
if you use cinnamon only as prevention, daily doses can be smaller and occasional

Cinnamon tea – therapeutic doses

  • Put 2 moderately heaped tablespoons of ground cinnamon into a jug with one liter of boiling water, let cool at room temperature, then strain the resulting gel or otherwise separate it by pouring off the tea, you can sweeten with 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey, add a little lemon juice (neither is necessary) and cover and place in the refrigerator
  • drink 1 cup 2 times a day
  • after two to three weeks you can reduce the daily dose
  • if you drink cinnamon tea only as prevention, daily doses can be smaller and occasional
  • this tea can also be used by people with type 1 diabetes who use synthetic insulin, but dosing must be gradual:
in the first week take only 1 cup of tea per day and increase the daily dose by 1 cup each subsequent week until reaching 3 – 4 cups per day
throughout the entire period it is necessary to monitor blood sugar levels more frequently and in case of low values consult a doctor about possible adjustments to treatment

9 medicinal effects of caraway on your health

Caraway may help fight inflammation

Laboratory studies confirm that caraway extract can reduce inflammation

Caraway contains many substances that have anti-inflammatory effects, but doctors do not yet know which of them is the most important and has the strongest effects

Plant compounds found in various types of pepper reduce levels of an important inflammatory marker in the blood – NF-kappaB

So far we do not have enough information on whether caraway, whether as a spice or as a dietary supplement, is truly effective in fighting inflammation.

Medicinal decoction of caraway

Pour about ½ teaspoon of caraway with 200 ml of boiling water and then let steep for 5 – 10 minutes. Then strain through a sieve and drink 2 times a day.

Caraway and apple tea

Boil 1 small teaspoon of caraway seeds + 1 tablespoon of apple peels (dried or fresh) for 7 minutes and steep for 10 minutes. Drink against bloating and while breastfeeding 1 to 3 times a day 1 cup. The tea is suitable in smaller amounts for tummy aches even for small children from about 2 years. It significantly supports the production of breast milk.

Caraway liqueur

Preparation time: 10 days and 20 minutes

We need:

  • 2 bottles (0.5 l each)
  • 3 tablespoons of caraway
  • 250 g granulated sugar
  • 200 ml vodka
  • 1.5 l water
  • 1.5 teaspoons granulated sugar

Put caraway, sugar, and vodka into a bottle with a wide mouth, close it and leave it to stand for 10 days by the window. Shake the bottle a few times during the first few days until the sugar dissolves. After 10 days boil 1 l of water with 1.5 teaspoons of sugar and let it cool.

Prepare a sufficiently large (500 ml) clean bottle and strain the caraway infusion (the color of a light black tea) into it through a very fine sieve or cloth. To that add the cooled sweet water and stir.

The resulting liqueur taste is very mild and sweet. It is really necessary to wait the 10 days, otherwise the liqueur has too aggressive a caraway flavor. Serve chilled; it works well for digestion.
