The pre-Christmas period is a time when many employees expect to receive a Christmas bonus from their bosses. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but other times it’s the complete opposite and employees can look forward to getting a little extra before the holidays.
As the Ladbible portal reports, an American company at its annual party gave its employees bonuses worth 10 million US dollars (€9,027,715). Every year the company holds Christmas parties. The purpose is to give people space to have fun, reflect on the whole year and congratulate each other on the successes they have achieved.
Rewards
However, St. John’s Properties left its employees in shock when management revealed that everyone would be leaving with huge Christmas bonuses. The amount of $10 million was divided among 198 employees. The average reward was around $50,000, depending on how long they had worked at the company. However, everyone received a bonus, from receptionists to maintenance workers to senior staff.
Each person had their amount in a red envelope and when they saw how much was inside they thought it was a joke. Then they were completely shocked and didn’t know how to react. The company’s chairman and founder, Edward St John, explained that this is a reward for helping the company reach its goals.
“To celebrate achieving our goal we wanted to reward our employees in a big way that would have a meaningful impact on their lives. I am grateful for each of the employees, for their hard work and dedication. I couldn’t think of a better way to show it… My philosophy has always been to surround myself with the best and it’s clear that I did.” After this announcement a huge celebration broke out and the Christmas party lasted a very long time.
