Acupressure is one of the most widely used methods in alternative medicine.

It involves applying pressure with the fingers of the hands to certain points, which then stimulates healing processes in other parts of the body that are connected to those points.

Today we will reveal a technique that helps ease problems with bloating, flatulence and poor digestion.

1. Points on the chest and abdomen

Where to find them: These are points located on and beside the imaginary axis running through the center of the body. The first two points are situated below the area where the collarbones end. The next point is approximately 2 to 3 cm above the navel (the energy center) and the last about 2 cm below the navel.

How they help: To relieve bloating apply gentle pressure to the point above the navel, i.e., in the area where the stomach is located. You will achieve a reduction in abdominal muscle contractions, relief of constipation, easing of stomach pains, but also relief of feelings of frustration, lower back pain in the sacral area, reduced stress and heartburn.

To strengthen the effect, alternately press the other 3 points as well. Do this regularly.

2. Points in the lower back

Where to find them: These points are sometimes also called the “sea of vitality.” They are located on both sides of the lower back approximately in the kidney area.

How they help: Pressing these points will relieve you of poor digestion and abdominal and stomach pains. If you have a weak back, avoid stimulating these points, otherwise you may worsen lower back pain.

3. Points on the hands

Where to find them: These points are located in the hollows on the wrist of each hand.

How they help: Applying gentle pressure to these acupressure spots will ease queasy sensations in the stomach, reduce nausea and improve digestion.

4. Points on the calves

Where to find them: These points are also called Stomach Point No. 36 or, in traditional Chinese medicine, the Zu San Li points. Their name refers to these points’ ability to energize the whole body.

If you place your hand on a bent knee so that your thumb overlaps its upper part, then the spot between the little finger and the ring finger points to this point, which is located in a small hollow on the outer side of the upper end of the fibula.

How they help: By stimulating these points you can increase overall energy, strengthen immunity, relieve digestive problems such as nausea, vomiting, bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea and also generally improve digestion.

5. Points on the feet

Where to find them: These are two important shiatsu points for relieving flatulence located on your feet. You can easily find them by crossing your leg over your knee and then feeling for them with the thumb of the opposite hand. They are on the arch of the inner side of the foot about 3 to 4 cm from the heel toward the big toe.

How they help: By applying pressure to these points for 1 minute you will calm your stomach and at the same time stimulate blood circulation in the stomach and intestines, thereby improving digestion and the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.
