Do you have little ones at home? Then you should definitely know how to prevent a disaster!
Has it ever happened to you that your little one, whether a child or a grandchild, got something stuck and began to choke? Let’s be honest, it’s a truly unpleasant situation and an adult is expected not to panic. That’s why today we bring you this simple trick that will ensure this situation never fazes you again!
How to do it?
In fact, it’s a completely simple procedure that you’ll master in no time. We advise you to do so as soon as possible, preferably today! It is truly sad that, for example, in Italy every year up to 50 families suffer the tragedy of death simply because there was no one present who knew this simple procedure and could have helped the child.
Always keep in mind that if you want to be successful, you need to take several factors into account:
- age and
- the child’s size!
When it comes to a baby, it’s good to sit down, turn the baby face down and, clearly but firmly, begin to pat them on the back with your palm. “Patting” (smacking) should always be done from the center of the back upward toward the edges.
For an older child (about 3 years), it’s enough to have the child facing away from you, secure them between your knees, lean their torso slightly forward (head pointing down) and gently strike the middle of their back with your palm 5 times.
If this procedure does not work for you, remain calm. You must never hit the child recklessly, because you could, for example, knock the wind out of them! And that certainly is not your goal in this situation! Calmly give them a few seconds to rest and then try the procedure once more.
Do you know the Heimlich maneuver?
If the usual procedure doesn’t work for a baby, it’s time for the so-called Heimlich maneuver.
How to do it?
- Place your child on your lap so that their head is tilted slightly down toward the ground.
- With one hand carefully support the child so they don’t fall.
- With the other hand press into the center of the chest with your index and middle fingers. By increasing pressure in the chest you will help the child expel the remaining food that was the reason for the choking.
- The sequence of strikes is 5 in a row, then a short pause and repeat the process until professional help arrives.
Here, just to be sure, we also provide a VIDEO GUIDE so you have a real idea of how to do it!
