In connection with the coronavirus the World Health Organization primarily points to the most common symptoms, which are bouts of dry cough or a prolonged temperature higher than 38 ° C. However, these symptoms are by no means the only ones and may not appear in everyone. Studies say that especially people with better immunity may not even know they are infected!
Why is it important to observe quarantine and only go among people with protection and only in necessary cases?
Not only do we avoid being infected that way, but we also do not transmit the virus further when we are already its carriers. The greatest risk of transmission to a healthy person is when COVID-19 has not yet manifested. And it is also possible that it will not manifest significantly in the end.
If you have noticed one or more of these symptoms in yourself, it may indicate that you were (or still are) a hidden carrier of the coronavirus.
1. Loss of smell
Sudden anosmia was reported by up to one-third of confirmed patients in China, Italy and South Korea. Many of them did not suffer from any other symptoms besides this one. Loss of smell, according to findings, tends to occur especially in younger patients with excellent immunity.
2. Diarrhea
Most people suffer from digestive problems from time to time, especially with an unbalanced diet. They are among the first troubles that tend to appear when COVID-19 is present in the body; however, attention should be sharpened especially if they begin to worsen. It is estimated that up to 83% of people who suffer diarrhea as a result of the coronavirus also soon lose their appetite.
3. Conjunctivitis
It is a fairly common symptom of viral diseases.
The eyes are visibly red, may sting or itch, and a companion problem is also pus around the eyelashes, which can literally glue the eyes shut during sleep. In more sensitive people this problem can appear due to air conditioning or strong wind, but currently conjunctivitis should also be considered as a potential symptom of the coronavirus.
4. Abdominal pain
Pain is often associated with diarrhea itself, but hospitals are increasingly seeing infected people who, apart from cramps and pain in the abdomen, show no other symptoms at all. It may also be due to pneumonia in the lower part of the lungs in an early stage.
5. Extreme fatigue
Fatigue is a common accompanying indicator of illness; in the case of the coronavirus it is such extreme exhaustion that a person cannot even get out of bed.
These days it’s hard to say whether fear or the pandemic itself rules the world more. Therefore, there is no need to look for symptoms where they are not and fear infection, because stress alone and the hormones released as a result weaken our immunity. So let’s have respect for the current situation and follow the recommendations, but – as has been said many times – let’s not give in to panic. Life will be much easier that way.
