Soon spring will arrive and this is the right time to gather young spruce shoots. Young shoots from coniferous trees such as pine or fir can also be used.

Young conifer shoots

Young spruce shoots contain a huge amount of vitamin C.
The syrup from these shoots dissolves mucus, thereby loosening the airways and making expectoration easier, relieves rheumatism, soothes pain in the limbs and muscles, as well as tendon sheath inflammation.

We need

  • young spruce shoots (up to 5 cm long)
  • cane sugar
  • organic lemons

Procedure

Wash the shoots well and let them drain. Fill a large 5-liter bottle by placing a layer of shoots about 5 cm high, sprinkle with cane sugar, place 2 lemon slices, and repeat until the bottle is full. Press down gently.
Wrap the bottle with cellophane and place it on a windowsill in a sunny spot. Let it stand for 2-3 weeks. A thick juice will begin to form, which you then strain through a cloth, pour into bottles and store in a cool place.

Usage

We use it as prevention and in the treatment of cough: 1 tablespoon every morning or to flavor tea or drinks. The syrup has a very pleasant taste and will be appreciated by children.
