You’re probably familiar with the situation when you’re choosing foods in the store for yourself and the whole family and telling yourself what a good thing you’re doing for everyone. But you probably don’t know that many foods you commonly buy hide dangers for your body. Which ones are they?

Dangerous foods

We therefore decided to compile a list of foods that can harm your body and found ways to avoid these problems and still enjoy all delicious dishes!

Salad

Scientists at the Center for Science in the Public Interest analyzed statistics from the last 12 years. They tried to find which foods led to the greatest number of food poisoning cases. Salad turned out to be number one. It was responsible for 363 outbreaks out of 13,568 known cases of poisoning. So even if a salad is well packaged and “ready to eat”, it’s better to wash it well before you put it on the plate.

Eggs

A salmonella infection, which can get onto eggs from the feces of infected chickens, can be dangerous, especially for children, older people and those with weakened immune systems. If you see that the shell is not perfectly clean, it’s better to spend one minute cooking the eggs than to decide to make scrambled eggs and feed the whole family.

Chicken

One drop of juice from raw chicken meat contains enough Campylobacter bacteria to infect a person. This bacterium causes fever and gastrointestinal problems. The bacteria spread very quickly when you wash the meat, because they end up on your hands, apron, countertops, etc. To be safe, you should minimize contact with raw chicken and wash the cutting board and knife away from the rest of the other foods (we even suggest washing them in boiling water). Tuna

When fish are thawed and stored improperly, a toxic protein called scombrotoxin can form. It can cause food poisoning that leads to skin rash, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, a high heart rate, and even loss of vision.
Solution: You should thaw tuna so that it is not left in contact with the air. Take it out of the freezer and place it on the lowest shelf in the refrigerator without opening the packaging, where you let it slowly thaw.

Cheese

Cheeses don’t contain toxic chemicals, but pathogenic microorganisms that cause poisoning can contaminate them at any stage of production. There is a risk of brucellosis and listeriosis if unpasteurized milk from sick animals is used during production. That’s why you should buy only cheeses from producers you know and trust.

Sausages and meat products

According to research, 12% of salamis and other meat products are infected with E. coli bacteria and pathogenic microorganisms (listeriosis and salmonella). Listeriosis is especially dangerous for elderly people, pregnant women, newborns and children under one year of age. It can cause damage to the nervous system and even meningitis.

Ground meat

Experts found residues of antimicrobial drugs, E. coli bacteria, salmonella and listeria in ground meat.

Seafood cocktail

Studies show that this type of food contains far more yeasts than allowed, which means that hygiene standards are being violated during production. You should only eat frozen seafood that is glazed with ice.

Soda

In addition to obesity and liver damage, another reason you should stop consuming soda is the effect it has on bones. Soda contains both phosphoric acid and caffeine, which leads to decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and ultimately osteoporosis.
