Headache can occur from various causes such as stress, poor diet or as a result of high blood pressure. Most often, however, it tends to appear with changes in weather and pressure. This mainly happens when the pressure drops during cloudy and rainy days. Which remedy is best to use for a headache depends largely on what type of pain it is.

Headache

  • Headache felt as pressure
  • Stabbing headache (especially around the forehead and eyes)
  • Migraine (severe, often recurring headache)

Now let’s look at which natural remedies work best for the three types of pain mentioned.

Headache caused by pressure

This type of headache is usually related to stress and lack of sleep. Peppermint oil or ginger tea work best.

Peppermint oil

Apply a few drops of peppermint oil to your fingertips and begin massaging your temples. Its cooling effect will relax the muscles in your head and neck, releasing the pressure.

Ginger tea

Take a 2 to 3 cm piece of ginger, clean it and cut it into smaller pieces. Then pour boiling water over it and let it steep for a few minutes. You can flavor it with lemon and honey.
Ginger is said to have better effects on reducing inflammation than aspirin.

Migraine

Migraine is typically characterized by appearing on one side of the head, being intense and unrelenting.
For this type of pain, methods from traditional Chinese medicine have proven effective, such as chrysanthemum flower tea or acupressure.

Chrysanthemum flower tea

Take dried chrysanthemum flowers, pour almost boiling water over them (90 to 95 degrees Celsius) and steep for a few minutes. Then let the tea cool and drink it.
This tea is not recommended for pregnant women because it has stimulating effects on the uterus.

Acupressure

Gently massage the points on both hands between the index finger and thumb for a few minutes.

Stabbing headache

With the stabbing type of headache, the pain is usually concentrated in one spot.
It most often occurs with changes in temperature and air pressure. There is a simple natural method for it using hot chili peppers.

Chili peppers

You can either consume a little hot pepper or fresh chili peppers. An alternative is to rub a cream containing chili peppers onto the temples.
Chili peppers contain substances that block the nerve signals responsible for pain. They are among the natural substances with the fastest onset of effect.
