Orchids are among the most noble houseplants. However, as beautiful as they are, they are also capricious. If your orchid last bloomed several months ago and now is adorned only with green leaves, you can encourage it to bloom again thanks to a banana peel. It contains a lot of important nutrients that will support the orchid in its further flowering.
Every grower can be annoyed when their orchid rebels and refuses to flower. This beautiful plant rewards us with its colorful flowers two to three times a year. However, if it has been sulking for more than six months, try simply supporting its flowering.
A change of environment and temperature benefits the orchid
To make your orchid delight you again with a flood of flowers, constantly change its environment. It really likes changes. While during the day it will warm up on an east or west windowsill, at night you can safely put it in a cooler room with a temperature around 15 degrees Celsius.
You can also kickstart a strong and healthy plant into flowering by placing it in a darker room for one week. A lack of light actually helps the orchid to bloom. The first buds should appear on this noble plant within three weeks.
Phosphorus, which is found in banana peels, supports orchid flowering
The most important thing is to give your orchid all the necessary nutrients that can trigger its blooming. Therefore stop fertilizing it with nitrogen fertilizer and switch to phosphorus instead. This important mineral, which literally boosts orchids into flowering, can be found precisely in banana peels.
So never throw banana peels away again; rather think of your orchids. In this biological material, besides phosphorus, you will also find potassium and magnesium. These mineral substances are literally gold for supporting the proper growth of orchids.
