We all want to feel comfortable in our homes. But unfortunately there are times when we may start to feel a bit unsettled. We’re not talking about when a stranger enters our home and we have to restrain ourselves, but about small creatures like mice and spiders. If you’ve noticed these unwelcome visitors in your home, don’t despair. Getting rid of them is very easy! Just use a used mint tea bag.
Why do spiders come?
In September the spider mating season begins, when males set out to hunt, which can bring them into your house. That’s why spiders are more common in the autumn. Spiders enter interiors mainly through open or poorly sealed windows and doors and through gaps and cracks around glass. They also hitch a ride in boxes or outdoor items that are brought into the house. Sometimes spiders enter indoors while searching for food and prey. When entering, watch out for open containers of food.
Why do mice come?
Don’t assume your house is dirty or that something is rotting in the cellar if you notice mice. Rodents are simply scavengers. They look for shelter and food wherever they can find it. If your house is empty, they’ll move in. Several things attract them, such as accessible outdoor trash bins or composters, nuts and fruits from trees in your garden, outdoor bowls of food and water for pets, or bird feeders. For these purposes, look for rodent-resistant containers.
How to best get rid of these pests
Getting rid of pests is easier than you might think. Just brew a cup of mint tea and leave the bag in the room where you’ve had problems with spiders and mice. In the meantime, enjoy a delicious cup of mint tea! Always place the tea bag in a corner, so it’s best to use 4 tea bags so you have one in each corner.
If you’re not one of those who like to brew tea, you can achieve the same result using essential oil. Put 10 to 15 drops of mint oil into a spray bottle filled with water and spray it around the baseboards. Not only will this drive away spiders and mice, but your home will also smell fantastic! You can also use cinnamon and lemon oil to repel spiders.
