The only criterion people usually have for making salads is that they choose ingredients only according to taste. Yet there are other things that need to be taken into account.
Some ingredients simply do not go together in a salad. And one of those combinations is precisely cucumbers and tomatoes.
Why you should never eat cucumbers with tomatoes
Each of these foods has a different time required for digestion.
According to Ayurveda, we should know the length of time needed to digest each food and then consume together only those whose times are similar.
If you eat foods with short and long digestion times at the same time, then the lighter food will leave the stomach only when the other is completely digested. However, its longer stay in the stomach can be harmful to the body, especially if it contains sugars.
Those sugars begin to ferment in the stomach and acids can then be released into the intestines, or back into the esophagus in the form of reflux, which will cause heartburn.
In some cases it can even lead to mild food poisoning. Instead of enjoying your meal, you will bring upon yourself only troubles.
Moreover, such fermentation of sugars in the stomach often causes gas formation, abdominal bloating and subsequent stomach and intestinal pain.
Cucumbers and tomatoes simply are not compatible foods and should never be consumed together.
Other food combinations you should not eat together
In addition to the example above there are many other unsuitable food combinations. Here are a few of them:
1. Fruit after the main meal
Fruit contains a lot of sugars and should not stay in the stomach for too long. In contrast, meat or other proteins need a relatively long time to be exposed to stomach acids.
Eating fruit after the main meal will cause the formation of “wine” in the stomach and can lead to gastric reflux and other digestive problems.
2. Pasta with meat
Pasta is essentially complex carbohydrates and, like fruit, should not remain in the stomach for a long time. The same applies to bread.
Therefore combinations such as stewed meat with elbow pasta, spaghetti with meat sauce or plain bread with ham will inevitably lead to fermentative processes in the stomach and subsequent digestive problems.
3. Meat, eggs and cheese
A cheese-and-ham omelet is a favorite meal for many people.
The problem here, however, is that it contains too large an amount of protein in a single serving. Choose only one type of protein per meal.
4. Bread or pasta with orange juice
Never mix bread or pasta with orange juice.
The reason is that the acids in the juice can impair the enzymes needed to digest the carbohydrates and starches in baked goods.
5. Vegetables and cheese
This is another bad combination. Its consumption will cause bloating.
6. Watermelon with other types of melons
Melons should also not be mixed with each other, nor with other foods.
They are best digested and you will get the most nutrients from them if you consume them separately.
7. Bananas and milk
Many people like bananas with milk, for example as part of their morning cereal.
The problem is that such a combination significantly slows down your digestion.
8. Fruit and yogurt
People often add fruit to their morning bowl of yogurt. Similar to the previous case, this will slow digestion and may damage the intestinal microflora.
This is especially true for pineapple and yogurt. This combination promotes the formation of substances that can cause serious intestinal problems and pain.
