Perhaps almost every one of us buys meat to stock up. Once we bring it home, we cut it into portions, put it into bags and freeze it. When we want to cook it, we don’t have to go to the store, we just take it out and defrost it. However, the defrosting itself is a lengthy process. It seems simple, but many people make mistakes doing it. So how should you proceed correctly, and as quickly as possible? There is one trick that will let you defrost meat quickly and safely.

The rule still applies

In general, meat should be thawed gradually. This way you preserve the quality, taste, and safety of the meat. Many people don’t plan ahead what they will cook, and therefore they pull the meat from the freezer right before cooking and put it in the microwave to defrost. But even if you run the defrost program, the meat thaws unevenly, and in some places it even gets cooked. Well, that’s clearly neither safe nor perfect in terms of taste. It’s best, then, to take the meat out of the freezer a day in advance and place it in the refrigerator. Or you can also use one lesser-known trick.

To defrost meat faster, follow these steps

Take the meat out of the freezer and check whether the bag is torn anywhere. If so, put the meat into another bag. Take a container, pot or pan and fill it with room-temperature water. Now comes the time to reveal the trick. Place the meat on a metal surface. Preferably on a baking sheet, like the one you use for baking buns. Then place the filled container with water on top of the meat. Leave it to act like this for about ten to twenty minutes, depending on the type of meat and its thickness. After this time the meat will be thawed and ready to be processed.

Explanation

It all sounds interesting, but believe that this method is better and safer than putting the meat in the microwave and having it half cooked. The secret lies in the action of pressure and heat. Between metal plates the meat will thaw much faster. The important thing is that this method doesn’t cause the meat to heat to a temperature where it would cook. This way you can save a lot of time, and also preserve the meat’s flavor. Moreover, it is a safe thawing procedure. Once the meat is defrosted, wash it, pat it dry with paper towels and you can process it as you like.
