Orchids are very popular flowers. Especially because their blossom is enchanting. These flowers are not particularly demanding in care, however they require a specific approach from the grower. Above all, their roots require constant access to light. You can achieve this, for example, by transplanting the orchid into a wicker or wooden basket. We’ll tell you how.
What materials will you need to transplant an orchid?
Before you begin transplanting your orchid, prepare:
- woven basket of bamboo, wicker, or wood
- peat and moss
- tree bark (pieces of various sizes)
How to proceed when transplanting an orchid?
First, line the wooden or bamboo pot with peat and moss. Proceed so that you cover the entire bottom and sides of the pot. Place larger pieces of tree bark on the bottom of the container, then place the orchid and cover it with more peat and moss. Leave the material rather airy and do not compact it. This type of pot will greatly benefit the orchid and at the same time provide a great interior decoration.
Proper care for orchids
Transplanting the orchid is not the end, quite the opposite. You need to care for it with love so that it thrives. Water it preferably with rainwater if the surroundings of the orchid in the pot are dry. However, be careful not to overwater. Ideally, from time to time place the orchid in a basin, pour enough standing or rainwater over it, let it absorb the necessary moisture and then pour off the excess liquid. Like any plant, the orchid also needs enough light for proper growth. Do not place it in direct sunlight. That could harm it. The plant does not benefit from frequent changes of location within the room either. During the winter months let the orchid rest and do not fertilize it. You can add special fertilizers to the plant during the spring, summer and autumn months.
