Woodsman's sausage goulash according to an old Moravian cookbook. I haven't eaten a better one so far, so I immediately wrote this recipe down.

Do you like simple dishes that are tasty and at the same time quickly prepared? Cook this potato goulash that the whole family will enjoy. An undeniable advantage is also that the whole meal is cooked in just one pot, so you can avoid the worry about dirty dishes.

The base is just a few ingredients

As already mentioned, this recipe is quick and cheap. If you don’t have pork meat at home, you can prepare this recipe using only sausage. You will then need to adjust the quantities. Prepare the following ingredients:

  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 1-2 onions
  • 500 g pork meat (e.g. neck)
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 smoked semi-dry sausage
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • Salt, pepper

Let’s get cooking!

  1. First peel, wash and chop the onion.
  2. In a larger pot heat about 2 tablespoons of oil and add the onion.
  3. When the onion becomes translucent, add the peeled potatoes cut into cubes and stir.
  4. Slice the red and green peppers and the tomatoes as well, add to the potatoes and season the mixture with salt and pepper.
  5. Slice the sausage into half-moon pieces, put it into the pot and fry for about 2 minutes. When the sausage is fried, sprinkle in the sweet paprika. If you like a spicy taste, you can use hot paprika instead of sweet.
  6. Add the meat cut into cubes to the potatoes and sausage, stir and let it brown a little.
  7. Now pour into the pot such an amount of water that all the ingredients are submerged, and let simmer for about 30–50 minutes, until the meat is tender. Do not add too much water so that you end up with soup instead of goulash.
  8. Finally you can add a little chopped parsley and the goulash is ready!

How to serve potato goulash with smoked sausage?

Serve the dish hot, preferably with fresh bread or other baked goods. In Hungary they add pickled cucumbers as a side to this dish. And one more small tip: when cooking this recipe always use smoked sausage, it gives the food a better flavor than ordinary sausage. Enjoy your meal!
