In the morning hours a briefing of the crisis staff took place. The Minister of the Interior and Deputy Prime Minister Jan Hamáček spoke about whether the state of emergency in the Czech Republic will continue, what traveling abroad should look like and what people should follow. Epidemiologist Roman Prymula is of the opinion that anyone who does not absolutely have to travel should postpone trips abroad. And Prime Minister Babiš claims that foreign countries will not now fight over tourists.

Until now it was the case that free movement around the Czech Republic was not possible, except for buying essential food and traveling to family or to work.

The borders were closed, which caused significant problems especially for people who travel abroad for work. As of 14 April it was possible to go abroad in justified cases.

„At present it is important that all epidemiological standards are observed. Those who, at the border when entering the Czech Republic, can show a negative confirmation of the presence of the coronavirus no older than four days will be able to enter the Czech Republic,“ said Jan Hamáček during the briefing, adding that this decision applies from Monday 27 April.

If a person is unable to properly document the test, then according to Hamáček, in the case that it concerns a citizen of the Czech Republic, they will face a 14-day quarantine.

If it concerns a foreigner, they will not be allowed to cross the border into the Czech Republic.

„The biggest exception are commuters. For them a negative test once every 14 days is sufficient,“ added Jan Hamáček. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (65) is of a different opinion, however.

„Traveling abroad is only theoretical, they won’t let you. According to the applicable laws we had to theoretically loosen travel abroad as well, but in practice you won’t get anywhere,” Babiš said on Friday.

„The court did not say that we acted incorrectly, the court said that we should have proceeded according to a different law, we corrected that last night,” Babiš added about the court decision.
