The fairy tale “Salt over Gold” already says that salt is very precious and important. And not just in the kitchen when preparing meals. Take a look at how differently it can be used around the house. It will save you time and money!

The best weed killer

How to prepare the weed killer?

Mix 4 liters of vinegar with 250 g of salt and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Mix this solution in a spray bottle and spray directly onto the weeds. They wilt after applying this solution. It’s simple, but tried last year and very effective – it’s great on weeds and grass that overgrow your walkway or decorative stones. We had this problem on the terrace and this remedy killed the weeds immediately. I just collected the wilted pieces into a bucket.

Best washing machine cleaner and odor remover

My mother-in-law told me that vinegar alone isn’t enough to remove the smell and it’s really true. Try it and you’ll be surprised what this combination can do!

we need:

  • 1 liter of vinegar
  • 1 kg of ordinary salt (I didn’t have it at home and so I used ¾

procedure:

Put the salt into the empty washing machine and pour in the vinegar. Set it to 90 degrees and start the cycle. When the water heats to this temperature, turn it off and let it sit for 3-4 hours. Then just run a rinse cycle without spinning. This method saved my washing machine, the laundry smells lovely again and I don’t even need fabric softener. I now only add washing powder to the machine and vinegar occasionally.

The drain is free in an instant

we need:

  • 200 g of salt
  • 200 g of baking powder

(We can also use a half dose, or set the rest aside for later – you never know when you’ll need it)

  • 150 ml of heated Vinegar
  • boiling water

procedure:

Mix the powder with the salt, stir well and pour into the drain. You don’t have to use the whole dose; you can use the rest later. For easier pouring use, for example, a sugar container. Pour a cup of heated vinegar over the mixture.

Then pour hot water into the drain.

Protects the shower curtain from mold

Just wash shower curtains in salt water after you buy them. Mold doesn’t stand a chance.

For washing, for milk, even when you don’t have time to launder

Want to whip cream or egg whites faster and especially so they have a fluffier texture, add a little salt at the start of whipping.

If you’ve opened a carton of milk or cream know that it will last much longer if you sprinkle a little salt into it. A small amount of salt won’t change the taste, but it will save you money. My grandmother always did this when she didn’t want to lose precious milk. 🙂

If you’ve bought a new towel, which you’re using for the first time, you know what a great feeling it is. However, towels gradually lose softness and absorbency with washing, become unpleasant to the touch and smell less appealing. To prevent this feeling, at the first opportunity add 1 cup of salt. It will ensure the perfect condition of the towels.

If you didn’t have time to wash a T-shirt or shirt and you’re worried about an unpleasant smell, try this trick. Mix 4 tablespoons of salt with 1 liter of hot water. Spray on the underarm areas and when the liquid dries, the smell is gone. In addition, this idea will also help you more easily remove yellow stains from white laundry.

Relieves itching

A mosquito bite can really sting. You can relieve the itching immediately – just mix salt with a little water to make a paste. Apply to the bitten area and that’s it.

Add it to shampoo

Salt can stimulate blood circulation of the scalp and thereby bring hair the nutrition needed for growth and strength. In addition, salt helps fight dandruff and absorbs excess grease that is especially common in fast-greasing hair. All of this ordinary table salt can do, and sea salt also contains rare vitamins and minerals found in seawater and they benefit your hair.

All you have to do is add 1 teaspoon of salt to your regular shampoo and wash your hair as usual. Or you can sprinkle a bit of salt into each dose of shampoo. Hair will stay fresher longer and retain its fluffy volume.

Get rid of a runny nose quickly and, most importantly, for a long time!

For those troubled by chronic rhinitis, cough, allergies, constantly stuffy nose or even headaches . All you need is water and salt (preferably sea salt). To start prepare a smaller dose (I make it today from 1 l of boiled water and 1 teaspoon of salt), you need 250 of boiled water and ¼ teaspoon of sea salt. Let the mixture cool completely, pour it into an empty nasal spray bottle (to avoid spilling, use a syringe). Then plug one nostril with your finger, simply spray the saline solution into the other and then blow. Repeat the same procedure with the other nostril. Use the solution as needed; it will help in a few days.

Sprinkle salt on a greasy stain on clothing as quickly as possible.

Salt absorbs most of the grease. Just sprinkle, wait and shake out. A large stain will be much easier to remove with normal washing and a small one will disappear immediately.

Prevents oil splattering

Sprinkle a little salt into the pan with oil before you put meat or other ingredients in. The oil won’t splatter and you’ll avoid greasing the kitchen and unpleasant encounters with hot oil.

Removes odor from shoes

Salt is used as an ingredient in antiperspirants and fresheners we normally buy in stores. You can try its “deodorizing” effect at home too – specifically on shoes . The unpleasant smell of footwear is caused by bacteria that accumulate in shoes with daily use. Salt will easily handle them. Just pour it into the shoes and leave it overnight. In the morning simply shake the salt out and you can wear the shoes right away.
