Bay laurel (bay leaf) is most commonly associated with sauerkraut, or used as an addition to various soups or sauces – besides its exceptional taste and aroma, which do not fade even over years, it also helps with digestion. If you place it under your pillow, it will guarantee you a peaceful sleep.

At the same time it also has anti-inflammatory effects and can be used in medicines and medicinal syrups. This is due to its content rich in magnesium, essential oils, volatile oils or glycosides.

It is also effective against diabetes, rheumatism and arthritis. It also has a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system – it improves bone quality and relieves back pain. However, it affects not only the body but also the mind. It is appreciated by people who suffer from migraines, as well as those who want to improve their memory and concentration.

We can use bay leaf whole, crushed into a powder, or as part of oils or decoctions.

Preparation method:

Flu –  add fifteen medium-sized pieces of bay leaf to 250g of lemon juice. To prevent the mixture from being too sour, add 500g of granulated sugar. After an hour of boiling these ingredients will turn into a thick mixture. Remove the bay leaves from it, let it cool and store the natural syrup in the refrigerator. Then simply take 1 tablespoon daily and the cough will be a thing of the past.

Sore areas –  mix about ten leaves with 70% alcohol and let it steep for one day. Then add the mixture to half a liter of olive oil and gently warm it (the liquid must not boil!). Then just let it cool and apply to the sore areas several times a day.

Digestion –  add five bay leaves to three deciliters of water and simmer for a maximum of 10 minutes. Let the decoction infuse overnight, strain in the morning and drink it during the day. Do this for three days, then take a week off and repeat the process for the whole month. The result will be that your body will get rid of excess salts.
