Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 piece of ginger root, approximately 8 cm long
  • 1 to 1.5 liters of water
  • Coconut oil
  • Honey
  • Apple cider vinegar

Preparation

Proceed as follows:

  1. Preparing the ginger: Take the ginger, peel it, wash it and cut it into small pieces.

  2. Cooking: Put the ginger pieces into a pot and pour in about 1 to 1.5 liters of water. Bring the water to a boil, reduce the heat, cover with a lid and simmer the ginger for about 15 minutes.

Note: Although boiling reduces the amount of some beneficial substances, such as vitamins or enzymes, this recipe is aimed at extracting active compounds from ginger (gingerosols), whose availability is improved by cooking.

  1. Straining and storage: After finishing cooking, let the liquid cool, then strain it, pour it into a glass container and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep there for up to 48 hours.

Usage

Whenever you are troubled by phlegm, prepare this ginger broth as follows:

  1. Pour about 2 dL of the ginger broth into a glass.

  2. Add a teaspoon each of coconut oil, honey and apple cider vinegar and mix well.

  3. Drink this beverage 3 to 4 times throughout the day.
