The human body can miraculously heal from cuts or other injuries even without our help. Sometimes we want to be fit as soon as possible and give the body a little help.
Try these tips for a faster fix for everything, from hiccups to an itchy throat.
Keep one eye closed
Amazing and at the same time simple trick. Try to keep one eye closed during your nighttime trip to the toilet. Why?
When you expose the retina of the eye to bright light, you trick your brain into thinking it’s daytime and make it harder for you to fall asleep again.
By keeping one eye closed you ensure a quicker adjustment to the dark and you’ll fall asleep again like a baby.
Move your neck
If you have ever rested the weight of your body on your arm for a long time, you know what it feels like when your limbs go numb and forget how to work.
This happens because you compressed nerves for too long and they didn’t get enough oxygen. Instead of frantic arm movements, try waking the numb limb by tilting your head backwards.
It works because the nerves in your neck run straight through the entire upper limb.
Hiccup, hiccup and once again hiccup
Sometimes you just can’t get rid of it. The reason is contractions of the membrane when the air you normally breathe becomes blocked and causes that familiar sound.
Hiccups themselves can be caused by eating too quickly, excessive swallowing of air, a sudden change in temperature in your stomach or too much excitement.
If you have also become a victim of this annoying condition, try opening your mouth and instinctively swallowing. Repeat this several times with your mouth open.
This exercise will help calm the membrane’s contractions and the hiccups will disappear for good.
Hold back your tears
At certain moments in life you’ve probably already experienced emotional strain, whether it was good or bad news, a nostalgic memory or stress at work.
It can happen when you least expect it. If you already feel tears welling up in your eyes, try this simple trick.
Look around and find some objects to look at. Slowly, one by one, name their colors.
By focusing on other things you’ll calm your breathing and also your heart rate. It will help you keep your tears in check and spare you potential embarrassment in public.
Pull your ear
You may have already tried massaging your temples to relieve a headache, but there are other pressure points on the body that work much better.
If you feel a headache beginning, pull your ear. Unlike massaging the temples, which only relieves pressure in the forehead area, tugging the earlobe provides overall relief.
Hold your earlobe, gently stretch it and release. This exercise will move the temporal bone enough to nourish and cleanse the area and allow fresh cerebrospinal fluid to enter.
Fear of needles is a thing of the past
For some people, a flu shot or blood draw can induce feelings of fear and anxiety. The good news is that German scientist Taras Usichenko found that if you cough while the needle is being inserted, you won’t feel any pain.
According to the study this is either due to distracting your perception or due to a temporary rise in blood pressure. So next time a big needle comes your way, go ahead and cough a few times.
Warm up your brain
Many of you have experienced this. You were looking forward to drinking that delicious ice cream milkshake, which you, however, drank too quickly.
The moment of pleasure is immediately followed by a sudden and intense headache. It happens when your brain detects a sharp drop in temperature and wants to protect itself.
It forces the blood vessels in the mouth area to swell and thereby provide a supply of warmth, but the opposite effect will be a sudden cooling of the brain.
The quickest remedy to relieve the headache is your tongue, which you press against the palate and warm up.
Swallow pills with ease
Swallowing horse-sized pills can cause problems for a large number of people, even those who don’t have trouble swallowing larger mouthfuls of food.
If you have prescription medicine, you don’t really have another option for taking it. So place the pill in your mouth, take a sip of water and tilt your head back while swallowing.
By doing this, a reflex in your body will take over the situation and naturally move the pill deeper into your throat. And the problem is gone!
