Are you a fan of scented candles? And do you especially like those in glass? No wonder — these candles not only nicely scent the whole apartment, but are also a beautiful decorative element that helps you create a cozy atmosphere at home. Moreover, when these candles burn out, the jar can be used practically. Therefore do not throw the jar away after it has burned out. Think ecologically and keep using it. It can serve you as a vase for flowers, a container for small items, or as a base when making candles by hand. Creativity knows no bounds.

Hot water or the freezer?

Have you been collecting these little jars for a long time but end up throwing them away because you vainly try to clean the jar of wax residues? If you answered yes, don’t lose hope. Here we offer you a few tricks on how to easily and quickly remove wax residues.

  • Removing wax with hot water

Place the container with the wax on a protective surface, for example on a towel or a pot holder. Boil a sufficient amount of water and then pour it into the glass about two centimeters below the rim. The heat will melt the wax and it will float on the surface. Once the water cools, the wax will harden and form a layer that can then be easily removed. Drain the water and be careful that wax residues do not get into the sink drain.

  • Remove wax using the oven

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the glass upside down on it. Put the sheet into the heated oven and check the wax occasionally. After about 15 minutes the wax will melt and run onto the foil. Then take the sheet out of the oven and carefully remove the glass from the sheet using gloves. Once the glass cools, rinse it with soap and warm water.

  • Put the jar in the freezer

This method is recommended mainly in cases where you have a larger piece of wax in the glass. Place the container with the wax into the freezer and leave it there for several hours, but preferably overnight. In the morning take the container out, turn it upside down and the wax will fall out by itself immediately. If it doesn’t, press on the wax with a spoon or a knife and the wax will loosen.

Use of the removed wax

Don’t throw away the removed wax; you can make an entirely new candle from it. Mix pieces of wax (ideally with a similar scent), put them in the microwave and heat until the wax melts. Then all that’s left is to insert a new wick into the jar, and while holding its tip, pour in the melted wax. Let it cool to room temperature and then put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Once the wax hardens, you have a new, homemade candle.
