Menopause can occur in women of all age groups, although it most commonly takes place between the ages of 45 and 55. The most frequent sign of the onset of menopause is the absence of menstruation, although this is of course not the only change women will face. Depending on many factors, such as social status, comorbidities or lifestyle, women may experience this period in different ways.

Fatigue and sweating are the most common symptoms

Up to 90 % of women report increased fatigue and a prolonged time needed for recovery. This results in reduced strength or an overall poorer physical condition. Among the other most common problems women complain about during this period are hot flashes and excessive sweating. Hot flashes typically occur in the evening hours and are caused by unstable body temperatures. Finding the cause is often very difficult.

In the evening or at night during sleep there is often increased sweating, similar to what happens with a fever. This of course negatively affects sleep quality; in extreme cases insomnia may occur. During the day, such episodes lead to lethargy and an increased level of stress. This also naturally causes sudden mood changes. This symptom is closely related to the hormonal imbalance the body is undergoing.

Weight gain

One of the noticeable symptoms of menopause is an increase in body weight, often unexplained by any external or internal factors. It is therefore clear that menopause is not only a burden on the body and physical fitness, but also on a woman’s mental health. Being informed is therefore important. A doctor should always adequately inform the patient about what she will be dealing with during this period and how to manage the condition.

Dietary supplements containing vitamins D3, B6, B12, C and E can help cope with the menopause period. They should also contain zinc and possibly herbal extracts, for example from tribulus, angelica, ashwagandha or maca powder. The basis is a healthy lifestyle and sufficient exercise. Meals should be non-spicy and lightly seasoned; it is also advisable to limit consumption of fatty meats and cheeses.
