It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that how we will function throughout the day depends on it. But let’s be honest, breakfast certainly isn’t everything, and even if you have something in the morning, it won’t always be oatmeal.
What not to eat on an empty stomach?
Some foods you consume on an empty stomach negatively affect your health. We have prepared a list of items that will quickly show you what could have a negative impact.
Citrus fruits
A successful person starts their morning by drinking orange juice — that was the image you were used to from TV. In real life, however, it’s not possible to do that every day. Plain citrus fruits and their juices, when consumed on an empty stomach, can cause inflammation of the stomach and various allergies.
Bananas
The banana has long ceased to be considered an exotic fruit, as it has become an integral part of our daily diet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t bring that much benefit to your body. They are more slowly digestible and if you eat them in the morning before a meal, they can cause bloating accompanied by unpleasant sensations. For this reason it is not necessary to eat bananas or consume them in various juices on an empty stomach. Doctors recommend eating this fruit only after you have had lunch.
Raw vegetables
The acids contained in fresh vegetables can irritate the lining of your stomach. Therefore raw vegetables are not suitable for morning consumption, especially for people who suffer from digestive problems.
Yogurt
Although yogurt on an empty stomach won’t cause as much trouble as citrus fruit, it also doesn’t bring the greatest benefit to the body. It’s best to eat it two hours after a meal or before bed. Then it will also help your digestion.
Cold water
Water is the source of life and if you want to have good digestion you should maintain a regular drinking regime. However, this applies to water that is at room temperature or slightly warm. On the contrary, cold water has a negative effect on digestion, so don’t drink it during a meal or after waking up in the morning because it causes more of a shock to your stomach than any beneficial effect.
Sweets
The pancreas cannot produce a sufficient amount of insulin in the morning hours, so when you binge on sweets you are only harming yourself. If you often eat such treats on an empty stomach, your blood sugar level will rise above normal and in the future it may cause, among other things, diabetes.
Coffee
A fragrant coffee to start the day is a favorite drink for many of you. Probably each of us has drunk it at least once on an empty stomach before breakfast. However, coffee irritates the stomach and over time this habit can develop into gastritis. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach also negatively affects the liver.
