The average person has had sex 7,778 times in their life. Whether that’s a lot or a little, the fact is that one day the well runs dry even for people with a huge libido. But even young people can survive a life without sex, whether they choose it voluntarily or are currently single and don’t want to handle their sex life with one-night stands. Are you curious what happens to your body when you’re not having sex?
1. You lose sexual appetite
It seems the motto applies to human libido: use it, or lose it.
“Some people who give up sex for a while suddenly become slower, less vital and lose their desire for sex,” said sex therapist Sari Cooper.
Then there’s a second group of people who, on the contrary, increase their sexual desire during sexual abstinence.
2. Weakened vaginal walls
This applies especially to women who are on the verge of menopause.
“In older age sex is no longer so regular, which leads to a weakening of the vaginal walls.
And when it comes to sex, it is often painful,” the therapist explained.
3. Loss of lubrication
This also applies to most older women. After a long break from sex a woman may have difficulty during intercourse. It is caused by a lack of the hormone estrogen.
“If you take someone like a 20- or 30-year-old, it’s clear she’ll have enough estrogen to keep the tissue healthy, supple and lubricating even if she doesn’t have sex. But for a 60-year-old woman,” says Dr. Lauren Streicher.
To alleviate the symptoms of lack of sex and aging, the doctor recommends the following: “Loss of lubrication will slow down if women use it regularly. Erotic books and videos also help. ”
4. More pain during menstruation
It may seem counterproductive, but sex during your period really does relieve menstrual cramps.
“The uterus is made of muscle and orgasm causes faster expulsion of blood, which relieves menstrual cramps.
It can also increase the secretion of endorphins, which also helps,” explained Dr. Strings.
