Most of us remember the wise man from the film “Saxana”, but this plant deserves much more than just a mention in a movie. It is most often found in the kitchen, where it is added to sauces or baked goods. We can also find it in the cosmetics sector, but that is in our healthcare. The Latin name comes from the word for salvation. In ancient Greece they used sage. Look at the miracles this plant can perform, you will be surprised!

What illnesses we can get rid of

The range of effects is respectable and the plant contains a number of useful substances. The herb has antioxidant and antiviral effects. It cleans the blood, increases concentration and memory. Suitable for wounds and skin defects. A sage tea has a positive effect on the liver, but generally on the digestive system. A sage decoction can be used for gargling, helps with sore throats and has a positive effect on the teeth. Sage sitz baths are suitable for complete relaxation. An ointment from this herb has a positive effect on inflamed areas or wounds. It is also grown for decorative purposes. The sage plant reaches a height of 70 cm and blooms from May to July. It helps women increase production of breast milk and with menstrual pain.

Use of sage products should be consulted with a doctor during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The plant contains a number of useful substances, including essential oils and minerals. It is also used for colds and angina. An infusion helps with bleeding gums and helps with periodontal disease.

Recipes for use

The tincture is taken as 20 – 25 drops 3 times daily.
During infusion we drink 2-3 cups a day and a break after 14 days is recommended.
Ointment is suitable for wounds, but long-term use is also not recommended. The herb should not be used for epilepsy.
Sage requires well-drained soil and a sunny spot, and in winter the plant must be protected from frost. In the past this plant was considered a panacea.
When we want to bathe, use 4 tablespoons of potato mash and pour one liter of water over it, then leave for 20 minutes and use the cooled liquid on the feet.
Since sage also helps our teeth, we can make a toothpaste. For this we need 15 g of fresh leaves that we have chopped. Let the crushed leaves dry in the oven for 20 minutes, sprinkle with coarse salt. Then sieve and grind into a powder. Use it in place of toothpaste.
For rinsing the hair we use an infusion that prevents dandruff and dry scalp.
On the Czech market you can also find toothpastes that contain herbs including sage.
If you sweat a lot, make a sage deodorant. If you have serious health problems, consult your doctor whether this plant is suitable for you.
