Many women experience unpleasant and sometimes unbearable lower abdominal pain during menstruation. Is it appropriate in this case to reach for pills?

It is possible, but you should take a few things into account. For example, that it is strictly forbidden to take medications that affect blood clotting and formation – analgin and aspirin. You also should not determine the doses of painkillers yourself, even if they do not contain acetylsalicylic acid and paracetamol. It is always better to consult a doctor and take a prescription medicine.

Hormonal changes

During menstruation hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body, thereby altering the body’s reactions to medications. An allergy may appear without an obvious reason – intolerance to medicines prescribed by the doctor against infections, for example antibiotics. If you feel that something is not right with you – nausea, dizziness, persistent fatigue, rash, acute pain or digestive problems, visit a doctor.

Relax

Why shouldn’t you go relax in a hot bath during menstruation? Because it stimulates the blood, which can cause excessive bleeding. The same applies to a hot shower or sauna.

Heavy bleeding can also be triggered by drinking alcohol, which dilates blood vessels, so you should avoid it or consume only a reasonable amount.

For the same reason you should not eat certain foods: chocolate, sourdough bread, overly spicy and salty foods, sour cream, nuts, eggs, milk, coffee, meat products such as sausages. Such food can cause you nausea or even dizziness during these days.

Diet

The digestive system is closely connected with the urogenital system, so you should not underestimate the value of food. It is sometimes said that no strenuous physical activity should be undertaken during menstruation. However, this view is slowly beginning to change and even regular exercise can rid us of unpleasant pain. Diet is no exception; it can also help us get through this period more easily and pleasantly.

Any cosmetic procedures during menstruation are just money wasted. Peels, mesotherapy, lip augmentation, injections of botox and hyaluronic acid, or tattooing. Even ordinary hair coloring can end unexpectedly. Pain is much more intense when manipulating the skin and hair, for example such as eyebrow plucking. Behind it all is the high level of progesterone in the blood.

Everything is built on a hormonal basis that changes during this period. During these days women are more emotionally vulnerable. You should therefore refrain from unnecessary drama, from reading sad books, from talking about sad events with friends and from discussing sensitive topics with loved ones. That will help you avoid negative emotions, fits of anger and bad experiences.
