Preparing your own aloe vera gel is simple and you can do it with common household tools.
What you will need:
- A clean cutting board
- A sharp knife
- An aloe vera plant
- A plate and a cotton towel
- A sterile glass container
- Fresh lemon juice
- A blender or food processor
Gel preparation procedure:
-
Leaf preparation:
- First wash your hands to avoid contaminating the gel.
- Cut one leaf from the lower part of the plant that is at least 10–15 cm long. Be careful not to damage the other leaves.
-
Removing the sap:
- Place the leaf on a plate at a 45° angle and let it rest for 15 minutes to allow the yellowish sap to drain out. This sap has strong laxative effects and can cause digestive problems.
-
Obtaining the flesh:
- After the sap has drained, cut the leaf lengthwise into two halves and scoop out the inner gel with a spoon.
- Alternatively, you can peel off the outer green skin with a knife and leave only the transparent flesh.
-
Blending and preservation:
- Put the extracted gel into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Add lemon juice – for 1 dcl of gel use the juice of 1/4 lemon.
- Pour the mixture into a sterile glass container, seal it and store in the refrigerator. The gel will stay fresh for up to 7 days.
How to use aloe vera
- Internal use: Consume 30 ml of gel three times a day to support health.
- Skin care: Cut an aloe vera leaf lengthwise and gently massage the inner side onto the affected area. Repeat several times a day until fully healed.
