You’ve probably already noticed the boom around the much promoted and beloved lemon water. It is said to help with weight loss and digestion. It didn’t take long before a „novinka“ in the form of honey water followed this trend. Does it really work?

Miraculous sweet water

The first mentions of the „miraculous“ water date back to 1882. It was then that a story about a certain Henry Eddington, a former member of the East India Company and later a soldier, appeared in the newspapers; he was awaiting his almost certain death in one of the military hospitals, where by coincidence an Indian healer was also working. He gave patients slightly sweetened water. The drink allegedly cured Henry and others.

13 unique bacteria

As you probably suspect, the above-mentioned miraculous drink was simply boiled water with honey. Honey has long been ascribed healing, perhaps even magical, effects.

It contains 13 unique health-beneficial lactic fermentation bacteria that get into it from the honey sac of bees. These bacteria are said to be able to defeat pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which cause urinary tract inflammations.
Do you like honey, or can’t you even stand the smell of it?

For depression and extra pounds

In addition, honey effectively disinfects and heals wounds and burns. According to recent studies it also regulates blood sugar and insulin levels and helps to reduce fatigue.

It is also said to cope with tiredness and various skin diseases. It improves digestion and destroys intestinal pathogens and parasites. It helps against coughs, throat irritation and influenza or colds. Moreover, it strengthens the immune system, improves memory, contributes to a good mood and is even said to help with weight loss.

How to prepare a honey drink?

It’s actually very simple. Ideally the water should be boiled, or at least left to stand. Ayurvedic sources recommend mountain spring water. It should be left out in the sun and warmed to a pleasant temperature.

Into 100 ml of clean water there should go one teaspoon of honey. If at all possible, do not use a metal spoon to scoop it. Stir the honey thoroughly and take it every morning on an empty stomach.
